A Sanctuary in the Storm
A Transformative Space for Jewish Belonging
The world is ablaze. Literally, figuratively.
And so many of us find ourselves on an isolated island, navigating pulls in multiple directions that often, on the surface, seem to be opposing one another.
For so many Jews in the diaspora, the last year and a half have been filled with the pain of watching the ongoing horrors of 10/7 + its aftermath, while also feeling isolated from other Jews and the non-Jewish world at large.
Many of us have had our beliefs or values doubted, the guideposts for our life assumed, and our humanity questioned. So many of us have felt pulled between different camps–left out of communities we once held safe and sacred (from mainstream workplaces to Jewish spaces to progressive organizing spaces), or felt unseen for the fullness of who we are.
As we deeply feel the rise in anti-semitism, global authoritarian tyranny, and a fractured political climate domestically, this space aims to be a balm–a safe, transformative container where Jewish folks across many spectrums (from J Street to Jewish Voice for Peace) can find connection and belonging.
Especially in these moments, where the waves are rocky and uncertain waters lie ahead, we must invest in the opportunities that allow us to be SEEN, that offer us the space to be re-invigorated when our tanks burn low.
If we want our work of tikkun olam and liberation (for Jewish people and all people!) to take root, pouring into our own cups must come first.
This will be the place to:
connect, hear others’ experiences, and embody the magic of peer-to-peer empathy and witnessing
practice slowness, holding space for our own and others’ emotions, tapping into the wisdom and knowing of the body
practice new tools to regulate the nervous system, tap into resilience, and be empowered in our bodies during times of fatigue, isolation, or anxiety
This is not a place:
to argue about politics, to litmus test one another on Israel/Palestine (holding all life as a sacred gift from the divine is a must!)
to offer unsolicited advice, judge or shame
